Vanessa (ヴァネッサ) is a character from The King of Fighters series. She first debuted in the series as a Striker in The King of Fighters '99 Evolution, and becomes playable in The King of Fighters 2000 as a member of the K' Team (the Hero Team in that age), as well as a secret agent. Her nickname is "Crimson Agent" (
Development[]
Like Maxima, she was created as a middle-aged character to contrast the multiple teenage fighters in the roster (especially true for the female cast at the time.) Because of this, the developers created the concept of a woman in her thirties who broke all the rules and overflowed with adult appeal. Developers also mention their intentions to make her playable in The King of Fighters '99 though this didn't happen due to time constraints.[1] Since Seth was created before Vanessa her clothes were designed to match his.[2]
Personality[]
Vanessa is a woman who enjoys the flavor of life and good jaunts to the bar for a drink. It's not known how she is able to keep her job a secret from her family, but she still seems to treasure them.
No matter what the case may be, Ramón will always try to shoot his shot at Vanessa. Emphasis on "Try".
Although often teasing in return, she will sometimes discourage Ramón's flirtations as she is married.
Powers[]
- Translocation - Vanessa can translocate herself at incredible speeds.
- Reflector - Vanessa can punch a projectile back to its sender.
- Wind Blast - Vanessa can create a strong air current by punching the air.
- Cutting aura - Vanessa's punches are so fast that they seem to slice the air around them.
- Power Punch - Vanessa has incredible punching power, enough to hurt even giant characters like Chang, Maxima, and Daimon. The downside to this is that she will hurt her hands while doing so.
Fighting Style[]
Vanessa uses a very agile boxing style and makes very minimal use of kicks, with even her low attacks and kick-button attacks being punches, with kicks only seen in her blowback attacks. Her style closely resembles Rick Strowd's, a similarity made obvious with her appearance in KOF 2002.

- Vanessa is the first female boxer of The King of Fighters series and is also one of the first female characters to use boxing in fighting games.
- K', Maxima, Vanessa and Ramón were the winners of The King of Fighters 2000. This makes Vanessa the first female character to win a KOF tournament.
