- This game, along with The King of Fighters '98 (and its updated version), The King of Fighters XI, The King of Fighters XII, The King of Fighters XIII and The King of Fighters XV, are the only games of the series in which the character BGM plays after the round announce.
- This game and The King of Fighters XI are also the only games of the series in which the BGM is interrupted after the end of the match.

- For strange reasons, the logo of this game has some styling similarities with the Dimps' game, The Rumble Fish, released in 2004.
