Street Fighter 6 (ストリートファイター6) is the seventh main installment in the Street Fighter series. It was announced on February 21, 2022 and is set to feature Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui as the first characters in a mainline Street Fighter game to not be from a Capcom IP. More crossover content has since been included, including Joe Higashi, Blue Mary and Andy Bogard making cameo appearances.
Chronologically, it is the latest in the series timeline, taking place ten years after the events of the Street Fighter III titles.
Modes[]
In addition to an Arcade Mode and online and offline multiplayer (online marked as the Battle Hub and Arcade Mode and offline multiplayer included in the Fighting Ground), there is also a mode called World Tour. In it, players can create a character and learn styles and moves from playable characters, even mixing and matching moves as long as they have different command inputs, while bonding with and learning more about each character. SF6 director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto confirmed that Terry and Mai would/will be available as World Tour masters to those who purchase them, which continues a precedent set with the Year 1 DLC.[1]

Connection to the SNK fighting series[]
Fighters & Stages[]
Terry and Mai were announced to be part of the Year 2 Character Pass alongside Elena and M. Bison on June 7, 2024 at Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles.
Both Terry and Mai wear their well-known outfits dating back to Fatal Fury 2. Specifically, Mai's outfit in the SF6 Year 2 trailer has its origins in Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (no ropes around the shoulders, black fingerless gloves and toes and heels exposed) but also has cherry blossom print that appears in New Age Saga King of Fighters games. Terry's first alternate costume is his default costume in Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Mai's Outfit 2 also is her default costume in City of the Wolves.
In his introduction in the World Tour mode[2], Terry arrives at a fighting tournament where the winners get to meet him at Pao Pao Cafe 6. The opening shot of Terry's arrival recreated the intros from the original Fatal Fury and Street Fighter II. After winning, the Avatar and two gang leaders, Thrasher Damnd from Mad Gear and Rudra from the Crows, arrive at Pao Pao, where Terry is seen battling Alweiss Louz, a fighter resembling Lao, at the Pao Pao Cafe in front of several spectators and the player's avatar. Some of the onlookers are shown dressed as other Fatal Fury characters such as Richard Meyer, Joe Higashi, Blue Mary, Andy Bogard, Franco Bash, and even one of the opponents in Fatal Fury 1's Arm Wrestling Bonus Game, complete with the grey hand. You, Damnd, and Rudra, battle the fans (the Joe, Mary, and Andy lookalikes specifically), before you can speak to Terry and learn his style. This battle mimics a traditional King of Fighters match as it is a 3 v 3 Team Battle where each fight is only one round as opposed to the traditional 3-Round formula.
The real Joe Higashi and Blue Mary appear in Metro City in this scenario not long after unlocking Terry as a Master, but go to Pao Pao Cafe after Joe learns of their fans and mistakes them for impersonators. Mary has the player buy Joe clothing to fit more in Metro City, but Joe gives it to his fan turned disciple. The player can also reunited Mary with her dog, Anton. After completing the respective tasks, the player can learn Hurricane Upper from Joe and Vertical Arrow from Mary. Joe and Mary are also stage cameos in Pao Pao Cafe 6 outside of World Tour mode.
Mai's teaser trailer, which is also a World Tour excerpt, is also set at Aokigahara, her stage from Fatal Fury 2.[3]
In World Tour, when the player talks to Terry about his fighting style and his life, Terry brings up Jeff Bogard, Geese Howard, Tung Fu Rue, Andy Bogard, Blue Mary, Joe Higashi, Duck King, Ukee, and Rock Howard, all of whom appear in artwork as he's describing them to the player. Terry also brings up the giant fish he caught in Real Bout Fatal Fury 2.
In Terry's arcade ladder, he fights against Ken as his final opponent, referencing their rivalry in the Capcom vs. SNK series, even going so far as to say they haven't seen each other in 20 years. After Terry defeats him, Ken gives him back his hat as an homage to their intro animation in Capcom vs. SNK.
This game marks the return of Wild Ambition character, Tsugumi Sendo, but as a cameo during Mai's last World Tour memory alongside Li Xiangfei from Real Bout 2. Billy Kane, Raiden (indirectly also his face persona Big Bear), Jubei Yamada and Cheng Sinzan, as well as Wolfgang Krauser are also appear as cameos, where main mentioned about the first two events of Fatal Fury.
Multiple evidence confirms that the Fatal Fury shared universe cast in this game are actually originating from the main King of Fighters timeline instead of following the worldview of Fatal Fury timeline.
- Blue Mary wearing her pre-New Age Saga King of Fighters outfit.
- Rock Howard growing up like in Garou: Mark of the Wolves while his father, Geese still alive. Additionally, the Avatar player's Geese costume is based on his pre-New Age's classic KOF look from his only tournament he participated, The King of Fighters '96.
- Terry and his original teammates redon their Fatal Fury 2 outfits.
- Mai dons an exclusive outfit which is based on her Real Bout Fatal Fury Special look, but with floral patterns from the New Age Saga.
- Despite Mai's mixed default outfit for this game, but since City of the Wolves takes place in 2008, which is two years prior to The King of Fighters XIII (2010), it is safe to assume that Street Fighter 6 event takes place in during Tales of Ash between The King of Fighters XI and The King of Fighters XIII, thus Rock grew up after the event of The King of Fighters 2003 during that third KOF saga.
Music[]
Terry's and Mai's respective themes are SF6 arrangements of Kurikinton and Enryujin (Flame Dragon God), which also appear in the Season 2 DLC announcement from Summer Games Fest.[4][5][3]
Terry's, Andy's, and Joe's themes from Fatal Fury 2/Special also came as rewards in the aforementioned 'Terry Arrives' Fighter Pass, and Geese's theme came as a reward in the November 2024 Fighter Pass while Billy's theme was also available on a Fighter Pass. Mai, Kim and Duck King's themes from FF2 were also available on the February 2025 Fighter Pass marking Mai's addition.
Fighter Pass Crossover Content[]
Players could also get parts of Andy's and Joe's outfits for their Avatar alongside other Fatal Fury themed rewards like Stickers and Titles in the 'Terry Arrives' Fighter Pass, which was active before Terry's release date. A later Fighter Pass in November 2024 also included Geese's outfit and music.
The February 2025 Fighter Pass released on February 5th – the day of Mai's addition/debut – and included the following:
- Mai World Tour/Avatar Gear
- Mai's, Kim's and Duck King's Fatal Fury 2 Special themes
- Stickers featuring B. Jenet, Rock and Terry
- Mai-themed emotes
Trivia[]
- Terry and Mai's inclusion in the game marks several milestones within the fighting game sphere:
- It is the first time that SNK characters or indeed any characters from a non-Capcom IP are playable in a mainline Street Fighter game (not a Vs. title or similar such as SNK vs. Capcom, Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter x Tekken or Tatsunoko vs. Capcom),
- It is also the third fighting game to feature both SNK and Capcom characters 21 years after SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, the most recent SNK vs. Capcom crossover series entry from 2003. The first such game was Tekken 7 featuring both Geese Howard and Akuma, while the second game was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate featuring Terry, Ryu and Ken, where it also features Tekken main character Kazuya Mishima.
- It was part of exchange collaborations between Capcom and SNK since The King of Fighters All Star – the first round of Street Fighter crossover represented Street Fighter V, when Street Fighter 6 was in development).
- Cammy, Ken, Guile, Juri and Jamie appear in KOF All Star as either new characters or with costumes made for SF6.
- It also coincides with the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. One of the first effects/consequences is that Terry's English VA Michael Allan Schneider and Mai's English VA Rebecca Rose first voice them in Street Fighter 6. In exchange for Terry and Mai's inclusions in Street Fighter 6, City of the Wolves adds Ken and Chun-Li, with Yasuyuki Oda confirming during SNK's Tokyo Game Show stream that Ken and Chun-Li were chosen because they are Terry's and Mai's respective Street Fighter rivals.[6]
- The Japanese voice actors of the characters (Takashi Kondo and Ami Koshimizu) voices them since 2016 (Terry) and 2010 (Mai), primarily since The King of Fighters XIV (Terry) and KOF Sky Stage (Mai).
- Like Fall Guys, Street Fighter 6 has both Terry and Mai to solely represent SNK. But unlike the Mediatonic game (temporary participation), the addition to Capcom's game is definitive.
- Likewise, Terry and Mai appeared together as guests in Metal Slug Defense and Metal Slug Attack, but Mai is the only one who has returned for Awakening (for now).
- Shinkiro made Terry's art for the Arcade and World Tour Modes reprising his style from when he was an SNK artist. He also made a special illustration, unlocked after cleaning the Story Mode.
- The arcade game Terry is playing on his character select standing idle animation is King of the Monsters.
- Mai's casual wear that she wears in her character select idle animation (dolphin shorts and a tank top) appears in Andy's and her endings in Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers.
- Some Japanese voice actors seen in this game also worked in The King of Fighters series:
- Tomoaki Maeno (Luke's VA) also voiced Kyo Kusanagi in the two KOF latest entries.
- Ayaka Fukuhara (Manon's VA) also voiced Najd in the two KOF latest entries.
- Hiroki Takahashi (Ryu's VA) also voiced Kukri in the two KOF latest entries and in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy.
