Few of the Resurrected Souls in The King of Fighters: A New Beginning.

The Resurrected Souls are characters who were resurrected by the evil entity Verse in The King of Fighters series.

It is implied that there are more souls contained by Verse than what is officially confirmed in the story, and it is used as a plot device to canonically resurrect characters killed off from the previous sagas as well as from other titles.

Story[]

During the finale of The King of Fighters XIV tournament, mere moments after Antonov's defeat, a mysterious entity appears, destroying the stadium and causing the death of many people.

This Verse's manifestation has already caused time anomalies. A fragment of Verse is inside, and its presence compelled Nakoruru (who refers to him as Wei Kamui) to traverse through spacetime to defeat it. Shun'ei defeated Verse, but upon the defeat, it exploded and released ominous mist across the world. With Verse's defeat, The King of Fighters tournament ends.

36 hours after the tournament's conclusion, Heidern receives information from Maxima about the creature that appeared during the finals of the tournament. The Ikari squad leader dubs the entity as Verse, due to it only yelling "Veeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrse" when it spoke. Heidern confirms that there are several bodies that were resurrected and has already commenced a 24 hour surveillance. After the meeting he tells Leona that Gaidel's resurrection has not been confirmed, although Leona responds that she's not concerned with it.

Additional Information[]

Maki Kagura (Chizuru's twin sister), as Mature and Vice (two Orochi servants) are currently deceased characters who are unlikely to have been absorbed by Verse, due to events and characteristics that contradict this possibility. Also it is unknown if Those from the Past leader, Saiki, was resurrected along with his descendant, Ash Crimson, due to the fact that the young man absorbed his powers.

Although a convenient plot element, the resurrection of mostly evil characters by Verse hearkens to various beliefs of the end of the world, where it is believed that ancient and once felled beings of great evil are said to return from hell upon the end of days for an ultimate battle to decide the fate of the world.
