Ougi Senpuu Retsuzan (奥義おうぎ 旋風せんぷうれつざん; Secret Skill: Whirlwind Rending Slash) is one of Haohmaru's Special Moves, and one of his signature attacks in the Samurai Shodown series, first appearing in the original Samurai Shodown.

Description[]

The user winds up, swings their sword across the ground, creating a small orange tornado that travels across the floor. If it connects with their opponent, it erupts into a bigger tornado that launches the target high, and sends them coming crashing back down. The swing can either be a simple lifting slash, a turning slash, or a slash that fully-back-swings into a one-handed recovery animation (stronger versions send the tornado further forward before it dissipates).

Exclusively in Samurai Shodown III, it can be done in the air as well.

The or kick-button-based-versions act as a feint dubbed as Ougi Senpuu Retsuzan (奥偽おうぎ 旋風せんぷうれつざん; Secret Fake: Whirlwind Rending Slash), via a pun. Haohmaru brings his blade back, and then just returns back to his idle stance (and may or may not say "kidding").

Haohmaru's Bust form in Samurai Shodown III & Samurai Shodown IV, as well as Rasetsumaru, has an alternate form known as Ougi Senpuu Retsuzan: Setsu (奥義おうぎ 旋風せんぷうれつざんせつ; Secret Skill: Whirlwind Rending Slash: Temple), where the tornado projectile travels in an upward arc instead of across the ground though the result is still the same when it connects. It has somewhat slower startup, but faster recovery while also putting the victim into a full juggle state if it connects.

Another version taken from Samurai Shodown Sen carried over into Soul Calibur VI is the Ougi Senpuu Retsuzan: Zero Shiki (奥義おうぎ 旋風せんぷうれつざん零式ぜろしき; Secret Skill: Whirlwind Rending Slash: Zero Method), where it is done as a two-handed sideways cut forward that stops past-mid-way in front of Haohmaru, and the energy contained within the blade is channeled as a close-ranged slash with no projectile released.
