Marie Heinlein (メアリー, Mearī) is a character in the Fatal Fury series. She is mentioned for the first time in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and she's only seen in a portrait of her.
Story[]
Marie Heinlein is the older sister of Kain R. Heinlein. She lived happily with her brother and their friend Abel Cameron. Eventually, they grew up and Marie attracted the attention of the crime boss, Geese Howard. They were married, but Marie had to live always hidden from the world, because she would represent a weakness to Geese's enemies. One day, she discovered she was pregnant. She had a boy and named him Rock. So, she lived her unfortunately sad life with her son, until one day, she fell ill and succumbed to her illness. Years later, Kain invited Rock to a King of Fighters tournament in order to tell him the truth about his mother. By the end of such tournament, Kain mentioned that Rock's mother is still alive, directly contradicting what he knew about what happened to his own mother.
Fate[]
In a fan Q&A for the game, the creators mentioned that Marie's death was never confirmed by a physician, leaving room for doubt about her fate. This suggests she might have survived her illness and gone into hiding, her existence concealed from both her late husband and son. However, Kain insists otherwise, claiming Marie is alive and uses this as leverage to recruit Rock to his side.
Although the sequel hasn't been released, many fans speculate about the true reasons behind Marie's apparent death. Some even question Kain's connection to her. While the creators have shown interest in fans' theories, they haven't officially addressed these ideas. Whether her status will be confirmed in the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves remains uncertain.
Personality[]
There's a lot of speculation about her personality, but nothing has been officially confirmed. What is known is that she loved her son and was a humble person. She also urged Rock not to trouble his father, implying she had some knowledge of his activities. This might explain why Marie harbored no resentment toward Geese for leaving them in their modest apartment.
