Overview[]

Krohnen is a Rushdown Character who excels in the mid range. He has a plethora of pokes that can be used at a distance thanks in part to his standing and crouching and his Spiral Smash, which also advances forward while Krohnen is attacking.

Uniquely, Krohnen's close is an incredibly fast and unseeable overhead that can be used to further bolster his already oppressive close-range game. Pair this with Strike Slash, where the version is an overhead that grants Krohnen enough plus frames and is also safe on block, and he has no problem getting in on an overly defensive opponent.

Speaking of, Krohnen's defensive options are also fairly solid. Chief among them being Heat Shield, which in addition to boasting plenty of invincibility frames, can also be used to stop any incoming projectiles (i.e., Ash's Ventose or King's Venom Strike) dead in their tracks. His aerial Blowback, due to its disjointed hitbox, can be used as an air-to-air tool as much as it can be used as an approach tool.

Krohnen's one biggest weaknesses, however, is his rather mediocre damage output, specifically without meter. While he can build it fairly quickly if he's dealing with a projectile-happy opponent, against a more aggressive opponent, he can't get much besides a basic light or close heavy confirm. His anti-airs also leave much to be desired since Heat Shield and jumping Blowback are really all he has there. Speaking of blowbacks, and next to Yuri, his standing Blowback has the worst range in the entire game, limiting its uses while Guard Cancelling or as a Shatter Strike.

Overall, compared to his prior iterations, Krohnen is a very straightforward, fundamentals-focused character that is at his best either as a Battery (2nd place) or an Anchor (3rd place).

Trivia[]

  • As a call-back to KOF 2001 and KOF 2002, all of Krohnen's Super Special Moves still have the same inputs as K9999 did back then (shown above), although they aren't in anyway altered in damage or properties on hit.
  • The claw that Krohnen's arm turns into during Calamity Overdrive bears a striking resemblance to Otto Octavius' (aka, Doc Ock) mechanical arms from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy (and Spider-Man: No Way Home).
