Hyperdrive Mode (ハイパードライブモード) is a mechanic in The King of Fighters XIII.
Description[]
Hyperdrive Mode is tied to the Drive Gauge, a new gauge that is above the Super Gauge. Having the Drive Gauge completely filled allows the character to activating Hyperdrive (HD) Mode by pressing and at the same time (similarly to MAX Mode). This causes the character to begin glowing and the drive gauge to begin gradually depleting. The following benefits are gained while in Hyperdrive Mode:
- All normal moves and command normals become cancel-able on all hits, akin to the Free Cancels of KOF 2002.
- Hyperdrive (HD) Cancels become available. These are similar to Drive Cancels, except they can also be done if the first special move was blocked. Each HDC will consume a portion of the Drive Gauge, usually around 10%. Again, these too also function akin to the aforementioned Free Cancels.
- Max Cancels become available, which is when a character cancels a Super Special Move into a Neo Max Super. Which Supers can be Max Canceled as well as the timing varies for each character.
- Performing a Neo Max while in HD mode only costs 2 stocks of meter rather than 3. Note that performing a Neomax (whether by itself, canceled from a normal move, Max Canceled or whiffed) will immediately deplete all remaining drive gauge and will end Hyperdrive Mode.
Note that unlike MAX Mode in most of the other KOF games, EX Specials, Supers and MAX Supers still cost their usual amount (1 power stock for the former 2, and 2 power stocks for the latter) while HD Mode is active.
