- Because of his link with Andy and Mai as a protege of the Shiranui Ninjutsu, he is sometimes jokingly referred to as their 'son'.
- Mai however, isn't on great terms with Hokutomaru, often arguing with him, and questioning him often about Andy's whereabouts whenever he goes missing. For Hokutomaru, seeing her is one of his most unpleasant things. This mutual disdain has never been explained in detail as of now.
