Hishou Nichirin Zan (飛翔ひしょう日輪斬にちりんざん; Flying Soar Day Ring Slash) is one of Geese Howard's Special Moves in both the Art of Fighting & The King of Fighters series, first appearing in Art of Fighting 2.

It returns in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as Rock Howard's aerial REV Blow, under the name Hishou Getsurin Zan (飛翔ひしょう月輪斬げつりんざん; Flying Soar Moon Ring Slash).

Description[]

"Slice clean through the air while jumping. Lets you fend off incoming attacks."
—Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Geese jumps high bracing himself with his following arm, then upon reaching his peak slashes outwards with a knife-hand motion from above, leaving a trail of chi behind.

Originally used by his younger self, it returns for present-day Geese in KOF '96.

The EX OK version causes a ground bounce.

Rock's variant instead has him go straight into the arm slash motion from midair.

Strategy[]

Another great addition to Geese's oki guessing game. Despite being a DP that launches Geese in the air, this move is strictly for use on grounded opponents. There are zero anti-air properties with this move. Against grounded opponents, however, it makes for a great mix-up, as well as combo filler.

The Neo Geo A Button version works as a decent callout, technically negative on block; but much like his Raikou Mawashi Geri, you have enough time to counter a predicted punish.

The Neo Geo C Button version on the other hand, is the one you'll be using the most, though, as it's not only safe on block, but crosses up and delivers a hard knockdown right next to Geese, which can be followed up with Raimei Gouha Nage - or if you want to really get nasty, an OTG Raging Storm into over 50% damage off a cross-up knockdown.

The EX OK version is also a great combo extender, putting opponents into a flipped state right in front of you, giving ample time for a follow-up (usually being a Fudou Ken). Also acts as your EX OK follow-up to a wall bounce.

Starting with the 2.10 update patch for KOF XV, the Neo Geo C Button version can also cause a ground bounce if used as a Counter Hit, allowing Geese for strong follow-ups as in the EX OK version of the move.
