Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2 (tentative title) was an unreleased fighting game which was in development by SNK during the early 2000s for both the Neo Geo MVS (Arcade) and Neo Geo AES (home) platforms.
Development History[]
Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2, was reported to be in the works on the Neo Geo system several times by Korean news sources. Since 2002, the project has been put on hold and eventually cancelled.[1] According to Falcoon at the 2005 KOF Party, the game's sequel was around 70% percent complete by the old SNK team. Ureshino reported that a new grappler character and Joe Higashi's apprentice were added to the roster.
In May 2022, more information was revealed about the game. A character sheet was revealed, showing that Garou 2 would have a base cast of approximately 20 characters, with all of the characters from the previous game returning and 6 newcomers would have been added. The leaked images show that Joe would have suffered some kind of accident, causing his student Kuan to be recruited for that edition's tournament.
The newcomers that would have been introduced are:
- Jess Young, a young man who previously used an outfit similar to a butler.
- Kuan Konta, Joe Higashi's apprentice. She would later make an appearance in Joe's Backstory in The King of Fighters XII.
- Daniel Hale, another young man, wearing an elegant suit.
- Ed Palmer, another young man with a similar look to Billy Kane.
- Dolvic Bourne, an afro descendant man wearing a yellow coat.
- Geki Gaoh, Gato's father.
- An unnamed woman with gala attire, next to Dolvic.
- Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi were also planned to appear as NPCs, possibly as a cameo during a win pose or cut-scene
On July 2022, it was mentioned that there were going to be "approximately 10 to 20 new move files" for returning characters; however, the other character sprite files are unfortunately "distorted" and/or unfinished.
- Terry Bogard was planned to have a directional Rising Tackle ending with an upwards kick
- Kim Jae Hoon was planned to gain his father's Tenshokyaku.
- Hokutomaru was going to have a glide move that involved his scarf. Andy is also included in his move files, possibly appearing as an assist attack or as a win pose.
- Marco was going to have a aerial move similar to Gen'ei Kyaku.
- B. Jenet was going to have a spinning move involving the edge of her dress.
There were new stages planned, including;
- A dock on top of water, similar to Terry's Stage in Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory.
- A grassy field near a windmill. Possibly Jess's Stage.
- A factory filled with boxes and gangsters. Possibly Daniel's Stage.
- A fancy restaurant.
- A gate with a residential area behind it.
- An Aztec inspired location with a pyramid. Possibly Tizoc's Stage.
- An empty colosseum with a sunset.
These stages, much like the character's new moves, were all unfinished.
On August 7th at EVO 2022, it was announced that the sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves has been green-lit and is currently under development. However, it will be an all-new title in 3D and will not be continued from this game. Further details however confirm some elements of this unreleased game will appear in the all-new game, such as Terry's Diagonal Rising Tackle, and that former developers that made this game will also be brought onboard. However, the same cannot be said for the characters proposed for the aborted sequel.
