  • This is the first Fatal Fury game to be released in over 23 years.
    • This is also the first mainline Fatal Fury game to be released in over 26 years.
  • The intro start-up sound from the Official Trailer is the same start-up sound from the intro of Real Bout Fatal Fury.
  • The seven claw marks on the logo is a nod to the fact that this is the 7th canonical Fatal Fury game.
  • This game is the first SNK game in more than 14 years to receive English voice acting, the last game being KOF Sky Stage. This time, provided by an actual professional English voice actors who are based in English-speaking Western countries (particularly U.S.A.), rather than by expat English voice actors who are based in Japan.
  • This is the first Fatal Fury game which every act of the fight is narrated. This feature also can be seen in SNK recent entries since 2016 (except Samurai Shodown (2019)).
  • While CotW is said to be a completely separate project from the original Garou: Mark of the Wolves 2, it appears to take a handful of elements from its predecessor:
    • Terry's diagonal Rising Tackle originally appeared in Mark of the Wolves 2, ending in a kick.
    • Preecha's concept as a female Muay Thai fighter similar to Joe Higashi bears a strong resemblance to Kuan Konta, a character planned to be introduced in Mark of the Wolves 2.
  • Some resemblance to Capcom's Street Fighter series' recent entries can be seen in this game:
    • The character intros seen in this game before the match.
    • The stages are chosen before the characters. In another SNK games, the characters are chosen first.
    • The winner screens.
  • For the first time in the series, the stages are selectable, and not automatic. However, each stage is associated to a character.
  • Starting from Billy's trailer, the game's name is narrated by the voice actors that dubbed the characters present in the trailers.
  • Until the first demos, the BGMs plays after the fight announcement. Starting from the latest demos, the BGMs plays along the announcement of the first round.
  • Some letters present in the game had a change between demos.
  • Starting from the more recent demos, the announcer says the characters' names after winning. In first demos, only the number of the players were announced.
  • In the demo available in TOKYO GAME SHOW 2024, some changes are noticed:
    • The Dream Amusement Park is replaced by the Hippopo Marina (Mai's stage).
    • Two banners can be seen: one with buildings between the rounds, and another with a wolf face, before the win screen.
  • Like Samurai Shodown (2019), City of the Wolves uses unique cel-shaded graphics.
    • Also, the cel-shaded graphics of City of the Wolves are inspired from the ones seen in (Ultimate) Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the American comic book graphic feels.
  • The character select screen of this game is very similiar to the first games of the series (until Fatal Fury 3).
  • Ahead of this game's release date on next Spring (April 24, 2025), the most famous characters of the series (Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, including Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Blue Mary, the latter two are NPC cameos on World Tour) has their English voice actors for this game start out in their guest appearances in the second season (Year 2) of Capcom's Street Fighter 6 (as already announced).
    • Capcom's game also uses their Japanese voice actors in their guest appearances (and used in SNK games since 2016 {Terry} and 2010 {Mai}, primarily those since The King of Fighters XIV {mainline} and KOF Sky Stage {only for Mai}).
    • Alongside The King of Fighters All Star (which ends its service in October 30, 2024), it is part of exchange collaboration between SNK and Capcom, with City of the Wolves adds Terry and Mai's counterparts, the Street Fighter heroes Ken Masters and Chun-Li via Season 1 DLC Pass. Thus, overall the very first game not to have primary Street Fighter protagonist Ryu as a guest character.
