Chun-li in Valkyrie Connect
- In spite of most English-voiced media, Chun-Li's name is more so pronounced properly as "Choon-lee/Chuu-en-lee" in pinyin. In on'yomi, her name would've been pronounced as "Shunrei".
- This makes her unique in that she is one of the few characters from the Street Fighter series whose name is rendered in pinyin instead of on'yomi like her father and/or Gen.
- Chun-Li's live action portrayals include ones by Ming-Na Wen in the Street Fighter film and by Kristin Kreuk in The Legend of Chun-Li. Besides those, cosplays of and pop culture references to her include the following:
- She is also the basis/inspiration for a song by rapper Nicki Minaj, which has a music video including Minaj dressing up as her.[1]
- Chinese idol Cheng Xiao of K-pop girl group WJSN (Cosmic Girls) dressed up as Chun-Li when appearing on the variety show King of First Pitch on SBS in South Korea.[2]
- Japanese model Yuka Kuramochi dressed up as her for a Red Bull Japan photo shoot.[3]
- In addition, in the live action film adaptation of City Hunter, Ryo Saeba (Jackie Chan) dresses as her during a Street Fighter-themed action sequence.
- In the non-canon Street Fighter film, she has the last name Xiang.
- As a police officer, Chun-Li has worked in narcotics before being assigned to be an anti-Shadaloo investigator.
- Chun-Li and Mai Shiranui are often featured together in official Capcom vs. SNK art considering that they respectively are Capcom's and SNK's original and most iconic female fighting game characters. Yasuyuki Oda also said when she and Ken were announced for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves that she was chosen because she is Mai's SF rival. Character-specific win quotes with Mai as an opponent in CvS and CvS 2's Japanese versions (which also include specific quotes when the two are teammates) and also Street Fighter 6 indicate that Mai respects Chun-Li's beauty but does not want to be outdone. The two were also compared in media and online before Mai was announced for SF6, including in the following:
- In June 2002, French magazine Hardcore Gamers compared the two in a spread.[4]
- In June 2003, Frederick Badlissi of Diehard Gamefan remarked that one of the appeals of Capcom vs. SNK was "The question of 'anatomic supremacy' between Mai Shiranui’s breasts (the 'North') and Chun-Li’s thighs (the 'South') would finally be answered."[5]
- In 2011, Rooster Teeth pitted the two against each other in Episode 16 of their Death Battle YouTube video series.[6]
- Alex Ahad, Skullgirls' creator and main artist, made some fan art of the two of them together.
