Past

Prior to The King of Fighters XI, Bao was an abandoned orphan left by his parents in the care of a mountain temple in China. He was born on a cursed day that occurs only once every 200 years. Asked by the head priest to adopt him, Chin Gentsai agrees as Bao exhibits psycho power. Before it could get out of control, Chin decided it necessary that Bao should train with him in order to control such power, introducing the boy to Sie Kensou, his other adoptive student and Athena Asamiya.

NESTS Chronicles

The King of Fighters '99

Kensou unwillingly using the Dragon Spirit to save Athena's life at the end of The King of Fighters '99. This power can be seen draining Bao's energy as well.

After Krizalid's defeat, there during the collapse of NESTS's base in the finals. During that time, Athena was caught underneath the falling rubble and passed out. Though he has no memory of it, Kensou saved her with a formidable latent energy. Ever since then, Bao suffered from a mysterious fatigue and illness. This same energy is later revealed to be the "Dragon's Spirit". Though she has her doubts with her master's methods, she wearily agrees to join the tournaments in this saga to treat Bao and Kensou's predicament.

The King of Fighters 2000

Prior to the events of the tournament, Chin suspects that the Dragon Spirit is connected between the two boys. His theory is because Kensou used the Dragon Spirit, its power was transferred to Bao, and completely drained Kensou of his Psycho Power. Despite this, Kensou decides to enter KOF regardless if he has his Psycho Powers or not. During the Psycho Soldier Team ending, Bao destroys the Zero Cannon by absorbing its second shot, at the cost of his own well being. Kensou suddenly gets his powers back, and learns that the power is transferred between the two if one of them is gravely injured.

The King of Fighters 2001

Prior to the events of the 2001 tournament, Bao became unable to shoot a Psycho Ball and Kensou's powers was completely drained of his powers for a time, before Kensou learned his powers again. During the Psycho Soldier Team ending, Bao explained that Kensou somehow absorbed the Dragon Spirit into him. At the same time, a man named Ron oversees this info and reveals to himself that the Dragon Spirit could be awakened even further, and how its power was powerful than the entirety of the NESTS cartel. Bao has not participated in any further tournaments for a while, as he tends to do alot of training in order to be able to control such power.

The King of Fighters 2003

Prior to the 2003 tournament, Kensou tells Athena that he isn't joining this year's KOF tournament with her or Chin, since Kensou and Bao will be going out on a year long training mission with Chin to master Kensou's unreliable "Dragon's Spirit".
